You Need a Life Manager, Honey
"Life can get a little messy. In that mess, life can get away from you and you look up and it's Friday and nothing has gotten accomplished."
That was my sales pitch to my husband right before I delivered the following line: "What you need is a life manager, honey." To which he replied, "where do you get one of those?" which was the exact question that I wanted him to ask because it led me to the BIG ASK: "Let me be your life manager!!!" (Disclaimer: wine was involved).
Hassan is one of those guys who thinks he can multitask and take care of everything, but the truth is - he sucks at it. He's spot on with remembering deadlines for work and knowing where he filed work documents, etc., but for his personal to-do list...not so much.
In relationships, each person has strengths and weaknesses. Although he is strong in many, many ways, my lovely sweetheart trips over himself at time when he has a myriad of things to do in real (not work) life. Enter: ME - the planner-toting, list making, never forgetful, Life Manager! To be fair he's fantastic at getting large projects done with laser focus, it's just that between the two of us, I'm the juggler. It took us a while to get to the point that he acknowledged his shortcomings. He's a classic, "I got it" guy which translates to "I want you to think I got it" which turns into, "I forgot and I will do it tomorrow."
Case in point - one of his fillings came out MONTHS ago. Despite my daily reminders and calendar invites, he always conveniently forgot to call the dentist to get it fixed. I resolved to let him handle his own business out of an abundance of caution to not be too controlling. But, at the point when I'd had enough of him complaining about the pain, I picked up the phone, dialed the dentist in front of him and Voilà- he had an appointment scheduled the next day.
I'm not ashamed to be my husband's self-proclaimed Life Manager. It makes things work better for him and I can (secretly) control the things that drive me nuts (read: procrastination and rescheduling)! Don't get me wrong - I am not "running" the house by any degree of reality - we share in responsibilities around here- but I just take the lead in making sure we both get our personal to-do lists done.
In what areas of life could you use a Life Manager?
