What's in a Word?
Memory-keeping became a "thing" for me in 2016. Ali Edwards is a guru on the subject and her tips and tricks for telling stories through photos and journaling have helped me immensely. One of her signature projects is One Little Word that encourages people to choose a word in January, focus on that word, live with it, and allow it to lead your creativity. This year I've chosen two words (natural overachiever, I know!) to help guide my intentions in 2017: "Courage" and "Grace".
Courage: I admit it - I am too often crippled by fear. Be it the fear of disappointing someone, making a mistake, or failure in general, I have been a slave to fear. By focusing on courage, I am setting my intention to make decisions from the heart and not from a place of fear. I intend to document my courageous decisions in a special way each month and hope that by meditating on this word, I can avoid self-sabotage and have fuller and more authentic experiences.
Grace: This is a word that stopped me in my tracks right after the new year. As someone who is her own worst enemy in many situations, it is key for me to allow myself some grace. What that means is to embrace my mistakes and missteps without dwelling on them. In addition, my intention is to exude grace with my husband. I am not the most forgetful person when it comes to my husband's missteps - I admit it! But it's important to show grace to your spouse, especially if that's what you expect in return. I am human which means I won't get it right every time and neither will others. In that same spirit then, may grace lead my heart in forgiving myself and others for the little things that fall outside the box...
So what do you think? What word(s) will you allow to lead you this year?
