Dallas Cowboys Take a Knee...And I'm Not Buying It
For those who think the Cowboys' decision to take a knee BEFORE the anthem is honorable please remember that Jerry Jones just two days before that Monday Night Football game decided to give everyone a First Amendment lesson by saying that protesting was inappropriate during the national anthem...which is about as bad a read of the 1st amendment as I've seen. You see, by kneeling before the anthem and not during it, Jones and his squad used a half measure to basically control the narrative and support Jones' misguided position that there is a "right" time to protest and it is "before" the anthem.
But that's the thing about the First Amendment...it protects speech and peaceful demonstrations at ANY time...not just when it's convenient or when it's comfortable for others.
So I'm not buying this middle ground action by the Cowboys. Was it a gesture? Yes. But was it self-serving? Absolutely.
