Best Wedding First Dance Songs
I knew what song I wanted to have my first dance to over 20 years before my wedding. The first time I heard Otis Redding croon "That's How Strong My Love Is," I knew instantly!. After that point, all I needed was to find a groom to complete my little fantasy!
When it came down to it, Hassan didn't have a choice in the matter (sorry babe) but he ended up loving the song (definitely a keeper!) and we only practiced once in the living room before our wedding. Although I'm partial to our song and would gladly share it with anyone who loves it as much as I do, here are some other songs that I think are just great. I hope this list helps those brides who are still searching for that perfect song!
Adore - Prince: This is a classic. For a fleeting moment, I considered changing ours to this one. Given the genius' timely departure from this earth, it would have even more significance now.
This is Why I Love You - MAJOR: A newer joint on heavy radio rotation. This song stops me dead in my tracks when I hear it. I literally have a lump in my throat every time it come on the radio. The words are ones of simplistic love and honor for your partner.
The Way You Look Tonight - Tony Bennett: it gets no smoother than this. Tony's voice is so pure and from another time and perfectly captures the essence of love with this song.
Crazy Love - Van Morrison: I honestly didn't realize this song was the original - I'm a huge fan of the Brian McKnight version as well. But there is something so super 70s-kind-of-love about this version. Perfect for a garden wedding with an ethereal feel.
You and I - Stevie Wonder: My mom lobbied hard for me to use this one and she made an excellent case for it. This song is the epitome of young love on the verge of taking on the world!
Latch - Sam Smith and Disclosure: This one is for THAT couple that can pull it off. The rhythm isn't classic waltz or classic slow sway - it's more like classic swag. You've definitely got to have the vibe to pull it off without being cheesy. Maybe this is a first song for an elopement or a small wedding with friends who will join you on the dance floor with cocktails...
What was your first dance song? What other ones have you heard that you love that you want to dance to for your wedding?
