Beautiful Hands: The Neutral Nail
Gone are the days when a "neutral" nail equaled brides and grandmas. Many women opt for a neutral nail as a way to avoid drawing unnecessary attention. A neutral nail not only adds a certain level of sophistication and polish to an overall look, but it is versatile and works well with any outfit. While nude/neutral nails are having a "moment", there is no need to go with the standard french manicure anymore. Instead, let's step it up and get creative!
I began going with a neutral nail when I found myself becoming too-often distracted by my own nails. More adventurous colors don't tend to work for me... I tend to get over it before it's time for my every-two-week nail appointment. Finding a neutral or nude shade not only helped me flow week to week with a color that did not distract me. I also found that a neutral nail complimented my entire wardrobe.
My go-to neutral shades of the moment are a true white like "Brigitte" by Julep or a gorgeous creamy pink like "Mod About You" by OPI. Both colors are neutral but add a heightened level of interest. These shades not only flatter all skin tones, but they are instant classics.
Just a few tips: If choosing a classic white, keep your hands and nails as clean as possible. Depending on the skill-level of your technician, your top coat may peel and allow dirt to ruin the look and shine of your nails. When applying "Mod About You" play around with the number of coats. For a richer look, consider applying a slightly darker pink as your base coat and then applying two shades of the "Mod About You" on top.
